Association for the Protection of the Environment (APE), Cairo
APE works with 250 women and girls from a garbage village in a project to recycle rags into rugs, bags and patchwork, and with 50 women and girls in a project making high quality paper products from recycled paper. The project incorporates literacy and personal and environmental hygiene as well as life skills to enable the young women to address issues such as FGM and early marriage.
Community Development Association of Ga’afar (CDAG), Beni Suef
CDAG works to improve the conditions of the people of Gaafar, a rural village community outside the larger town of El-Fashn. Since its founding in 1995, CDAG has rehabilitated approximately 75% of the housing in the community, implemented successful programs in agricultural and animal husbandry techniques, and opened a primary school, and empowered disabled youth to claim their rights.
Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS), Cairo
CEOSS, one of Egypt's largest and oldest NGOs, targets the poorest members of society, particularly women and children, for special empowerment. CEOSS builds the capacity of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in integrated approaches to economic, agricultural and environmental development, health care, education and inclusion of persons with disabilities. It fosters a rights-based approach, teaching citizens to claim their right to improved quality of life.
Ekhlas Coptic Organization for Development (ECOD), Beni Suef
ECOD projects include literacy and parenting training for mothers and for girls preparing for marriage, housing, and community based rehabilitation for disabled individuals. Courses for women address general health and hygiene, good nutrition for children, and the importance of vaccinating against illness.
Fair Haven School, Alexandria
Fairhaven School was founded as a day program in 1989 for intellectually disabled children. Today there are about 200 children with 70 teachers in 24 classes. Departments include early intervention, preparatory, slow learners and vocational training in gardening, sewing, printing, carpentry, weaving and assembly. In September 2004, Fairhaven opened a group home accommodating 21 individuals.

Kolali Church, founded more than 100 years ago, serves one of the most crowded areas of Cairo’s inner-city. The church congregation works hard to provide to the community family and marriage counseling; literacy classes focusing on reading, writing and computer; aid to needy families; employment service, and summer and after school camps for the children of the community.
New Horizons Association for Social Development (NHASD), Cairo
NHASD, founded in 2003, addresses environmental issues, empowers poor women by developing their communication, leadership and decision-making skills; encourages children to remain in school; conducts literacy classes; and addresses issues of child labor.
New Vision Association for Development (NVAD), Minia
NVAD, registered in 2000, aims to empower Egyptian families and vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, children, female household heads, and unemployed youth. NVAD focuses on small communities and on specific problems such as the situation of individuals with horse drawn taxis and families in conflict.
Nor El Ommam, Minia
Nor El Ommam (Light of the People) Association was founded in 2003 in Maghagha, an area outside the city of Minia. It works in the fields of health care, agricultural planning, training for girls and mothers in hygiene and home economics, and animal husbandry. The association has also provided micro-credit for income generation projects for poor families.
Village of Hope (VOH), Alexandria
VOH, registered in 2000, provides a vocational day care program for youth with intellectual disabilities. It offers youth opportunities to work in a bakery, in agriculture, in carpentry, and in weaving. It brings youth with disabilities together with the elderly to enrich the lives of both. In addition, the organization raises the awareness of society concerning the situation of the intellectually disabled and advocates for their rights.

Programs teach women how to read and write, and provide education equivalency so women can obtain high school diplomas. WSA also runs training courses in cottage industries that women can perform from their homes to increase family income. WSA works with families concerning their physical environment, stressing the need for hygiene and clean living areas for children and family members.

Some of the very successful projects founded and run by the Women's Union are a Geriatric Services Center, nursery programs for children, a school for drop out girls, and a micro-credit program to establish and expand small businesses for female household heads.
