This site provides an overview of the work and history of the Coptic
Evangelical Organization for Social Services. It is one of the PC
(USA) partners in Egypt and one of the JHAH core group members.

Cairo based independent institution for applied social science
research. Founded by Sa ad Eddin Ibrahim in 1988 to use contemporary
social and human sciences to serve the development of Egypt and the
Arab World. Attempts to address the social, economic, political and
cultural dimensions of development.
The Center is particularly engaged with the core development issues of
democratization and the role of civil society organizations. ICDS has
its own research and advocacy programs. It also conducts commissioned
research and provides consultation and training services to
governmental and international organizations in numerous fields. The
Center carries out supportive activities related to its objectives -
including the organization of seminars, conferences and the
publication and dissemination of information. The Center publishes the
renowned monthly magazine Civil Society which is currently available
on-line.

Also provides important information about significant current event
and info about freedom of speech, etc in Egypt including the story of
arrest of Dr. Sa ad Eddin Ibrahim by Egyptian State Security Police,
on July 1st, 2000 on charges of defaming Egypt's reputation abroad and
accepting foreign funding without government permission. Dr Sa ad was
subsequently found guilty and sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
